We are in the process of realizing
and developing a new vision, embodied as the Five Changes Foundation.
We are very excited and energized. It feels like the obvious next
step. It will help us clarify and expand the work we already do while
making it accessible in new and diverse arenas.
The Five Changes mission statement begins, “The Five Changes Foundation
is a nonsectarian organization formed on the principles of active
nonviolence and community renewal; dedicated to the education, training
and development of creative peacemaking strategies for individuals,
organizations and communities with a special focus on empowering children
and young adults.”
Our vision is to create an umbrella under which we, in association
with a number of colleagues, can collaborate in developing programs
in diverse settings—corporate, organizational, as well as in schools,
prisons and in juvenile correctional facilities. Some of these programs
are already in existence, or represent work we have done in the past.
Like so many others we feel the urgency of the times, and an eagerness
to offer our skills wherever they can be of most help. We are therefore
broadening our vision and freeing ourselves from the limitations of
being identified solely as a religious organization.
We strongly believe that the Dharma and the skills implicit
in its practice transcend Buddhism and point to universal
truths and their application.
Our work as we now define it includes “Trainings, workshops, retreats,
camps, publications, films and videos.”
Some
of the tools we use: Adaptations of Meditation and Mindfulness practices
from a number of sacred and secular traditions, which can be used
in the workplace, and in everyday life, by children and adults; Council,
Deep Listening and Truth-Telling, Martial Arts, Nonviolence skills,
Training in Diversity, Economic Justice, Deep-Ecology, Movement, Theater,
Creative Writing, and the Arts . . .
